Hampshire's Whitchurch Silk Mill is Reopening

At MayInspire we have a soft spot for traditional crafts, especially if they support Hampshire's interesting heritage. This is why we are excited to see Whitchurch Silk Mill opening back up to the public, after being closed for refurbishments. Whitchurch Silk Mill is the oldest silk mill in the UK, that is still in its original building. It is a Georgian water mill that weaves silk using 19th century machinery.

Thanks to the 'Preserving the Fabric Project' funded by Heritage Lottery, the Mill has renovated itself, working on becoming sustainable, and promoting the stories behind this fantastic place. The grand opening is all set for Saturday 22nd September 2018, allowing you to indulge in;

  • the original mill wheel and Victorian machinery;

  • fabulous fabrics on the looms;

  • a shop with fantastic items including silk products from the mill;

  • and a peaceful setting by the River Test, with a deligtful tearoom.

Make sure you pay them a visit, if you can; Whitchurch Silk Mill, 28 Winchester Street, Whitchurch, Hampshire, RG28 7AL

Check out their Twitter or Facebook feed for up to date information about them.
